During 2006-2007, the Initiative funded institutes that served more than one hundred college and high school teachers, including:

  • The Teachers as Writers Summer Institute at the Athenæum, a two-week workshop led by University of Massachusetts-Boston Professor Judith Goleman for teachers from kindergarten to college
  • Franklin Pierce College Summer Institute, a series of workshops helping teachers from all disciplines address the writing challenges of college students of traditional age and those attending college after experience in the workforce
  • Keene State College Institute on the Teaching of Writing, an expansion of a summer institute into a yearlong format at this institution of higher learning with a long history of teacher education
