Grant Guidelines
Grants are distributed on a project basis for innovative approaches to the teaching and learning of writing in the greater New England area. The main interest of the Initiative is in projects that have an immediate payoff in improved expository writing. Although its primary responsibility is to learners, the Calderwood Writing Initiative is not restricted to schools; it also encourages applications from free-standing community institutions.
The Calderwood Writing Initiative prefers projects that can be replicated in other settings, that result in publications, and that involve significant cost-sharing from applicants. The Initiative does not provide grants for equipment or the rental of space.
In addition to project grants, the Initiative offers proposal planning grants of up to $5,000, as well as assistance to help applicants improve promising proposals.
